Structure
Exploring low-impact strategies for sub- and superstructures
Service Description
Few elements are more decisive for the environmental impact of a building than its load-bearing structure and foundations. They are thus a prime focus in any serious sustainability strategy. But how can we find sustainable solutions for those same elements that are so crucial to the construction’s stability and fire safety? Does something like ‘green concrete’ really exist? Could I use it in my building projects? And what other structural alternatives are possible? In this session, we will explore each of these questions, look at alternative structural solutions and examine how conventional construction methods can be used in smarter and more efficient ways. Using technical references, inspiring examples and practical tips, you will gain a clear picture of the potential environmental gains and the possibilities within your own projects. After this training, you will: - Understand how conventional building materials such as steel, concrete and wood are entangled with today’s ecological challenges. - Know how much foundation elements determine the total environmental impact of a building and how their impact can be reduced. - Understand how the environmental impact of concrete and steel can be reduced, have a solid understanding of concepts such as green cement and recycled concrete, and be aware of some common misconceptions about these topics. - Be aware of a series of low-impact alternatives for load-bearing masonry. - Understand the advantages, drawbacks, and key considerations of various timber construction systems, and know how their environmental impact compares to concrete and steel. - Be able to take immediate action with a series of budget-friendly and pragmatic strategies that can quickly lead to significant environmental gains. Why this training? This course provides a clear understanding of the core aspects of sustainable construction and shows you the current trends and best practices that are easy to adopt. You’ll gain tools to engage in meaningful conversations with your building team, stakeholders and clients, and receive a set of practical insights and technical references to boost sustainability in your construction process in a pragmatic and budget-conscious way. For whom? This training is intended for architects, contractors, developers, and any other professionals in the construction sector. No prior experience is required. However, expect a dense session in which various technical and ecological aspects will be discussed in depth.
